3 Things To Consider Before Using Rust Inhibitor Spray On Your Vehicle

Posted on: 28 April 2017

If you are thinking about applying rust inhibitor spray to the underside of your vehicle, here are three things that you want to take into consideration.

#1 Cleaning The Underside

Before you apply any rust inhibitor spray, you want to make sure that you have a clean work surface by cleaning the underside of your car. To start with, you are going to want to take your vehicle through a car wash that will clean the underside of your vehicle. Then, you are going to want to lift your vehicle up with jacks and use a backboard to get under the car to clean away any remaining dirt, oil and grease. This will be best accomplished by using a degreasing product specifically designed for vehicles.

This may take some time, but it will help insure that the rust inhibitor that you apply stays in place and works as effectively as possible.

#2 Protect Yourself

It is important to keep in mind that although the rust inhibitor spray is safe to apply to your vehicle, you want to make sure that you don't get the spray on yourself, as it is not generally safe to inhale.

You are going to want to invest in a breathing mask that filters out paint particles from your local home improvement store. This will cost a little more than a basic face mask, but will help protect your lungs.

You are also going to want to invest in eye protection as well, as you don't want the overspray to get into your eyes. Also, keep in mind that working with spray paint can get messy, so be sure to wear clothing that you are okay with getting overspray onto that you may not possible be able to remove.

#3 Multiple Nozzles

Finally, before you get started, make sure that you have all the right types of nozzles to use. You should be able to spray most of your vehicle with the default nozzle that comes on your paint can. However, there may be areas underneath your vehicle that are difficult to reach with the standard nozzle, which is why you may want to invest in a modified spray tip.

To use a modified spray tip, you generally just have to pop off the spray tip that is in place and put the modified spray tip on. These modified spray tips often extend the tip, allowing you to spray into hard to reach areas more easily.
